Young Researchers Seminar on Gender and Sexuality

28/05/2013

On the 28th of May an interdisciplinary Young Researchers’ Seminar on Gender and Sexuality is being organised at the University of Antwerp. Our guest speakers are Davina Cooper, Professor of Law and Political Theory at the AHRC Research Centre for Law, Gender & Sexuality at the University of Kent, and Joyce Outshoorn, Professor of Women’s Studies at the University of Leiden.

In the morning, 10.00-12.30, there will be two guest lectures. Professor Outshoorn will give a conceptual lecture on prostitution and trafficking and Professor Cooper on the state, reading it through a conflict with UK conservative Christians not wanting to provide equal services to gays and lesbians. There will be time for questions, discussion, and coffee. We provide for a light lunch. In the afternoon, 13.30-16.00, participants will be divided into two groups according to their research interest and a select number of them will be able to discuss their research with Professor Outshoorn or Professor Cooper and their peers.

The seminar is free but registration is required. Please register at the latest on 14th May by mailing Asa.Ekvall@ua.ac.be. When registering please provide three lines on your research interest. Those who would like to discuss their research are invited to provide a resume of max. 3 pages.

The seminar is organized by the University of Antwerp Research Groups on Citizenship, Gender and Diversity (Department of Political Science), on Media, Policy and Culture (Department of Communication), on Modern Literature (Department of Literature), and on Political History (Department of History), in cooperation with Sophia, the Belgian genderstudies network.
