Gender studies in Belgium: a state of the art

Gender studies in Belgium: a state of the art

On October 21 and 22, 2021, sophia is organising the fifth edition of Gender studies in Belgium: a state of the art.

Gender studies in Belgium explores new perspectives and ongoing debates in research on gender studies in Belgium. It connects individuals involved in the diverse fields of gender studies in Belgium and offers a platform for dialogue and debate.

The conference program ensures a balance between the different scientific fields, the language communities in Belgium, between starting and more experienced researchers, and between academia, civil society and activism.

Our guest of honour, Eliza Steinbock (Maastricht University), will deliver a plenary keynote lecture entitled ‘Culture-in-Solution: Contemporary Transgender Visual Cultures and Culture Wars‘.

Program

> Participation fee

Tickets can be booked on a sliding scale. The sliding scale represents the idea that financial resources should not be the determining factor in whether or not someone can attend our conference. It seeks to address the systemic inequalities of our society and embodies our commitment to the conditions of equity and balance that ensures everyone can participate authentically.

1. Support-level scale (standard fee + donation)

If you have financial privilege and can contribute more than the true cost of the event. Your contribution goes towards supporting the participation of people in the entry-level scale.

2. Standard scale (standard fee)

If you have financial security and are able to comfortably meet all basic needs.

This is the asking price. This price reflects the true cost of the conference: it covers the speakers’, graphists’ and platform’s fee.

3. Entry-level scale

If you have a financial need or vulnerability that prohibits you from paying the true cost of the conference. You struggle to meet basic needs and paying full price for this conference would be a significant hardship.

This is a 25% to 75% discount of the asking price and does not cover the true cost of the conference. This price is made available by support-level contributions and our commitment to accessibility.
