Journal des Anthropologues: Europe studied by its ‘Others’.

Journal des Anthropologues is very pleased to share with you a call for papers entitled “Europe studied by its ‘Others’. Past and contemporary experiences”.

This issue proposes to gather ethnographic studies carried out by ‘non-European’ anthropologists, perceived as such, or ‘from’ postcolonial immigration, who have conducted researches on European societies.

Here is a [non-exhaustive] list of possible themes concerned by the dossier:

  • The translation and appropriation of non-European theoretical, political, legal, or cultural concepts in European countries (feminicide, the legal status of rivers, coloniality, obstetric violence, among others)
  • The reception and adaptation of resistance practices (“artivism”, escrache, funa, batucadas)
  • The different center/periphery relations and their plasticity
  • Sensitive heritage, restitution, and museum relations between “North” and “South
  • Religions, spiritualities, and secularism
  • Possibilities and limits of the comparative approach
  • Experiences of racialization and discrimination in the fieldwork or in the university and their epistemological and methodological effects
  • Career paths and experiences of ‘non-European’ researchers who study Europe
  • Thinking about European societies with theories coming from “elsewhere” (epistemologies of the South, de/post/anticolonial feminism, ‘community’ feminism -feminismo comunitario-, among others).

Accepted papers will be published in a thematic dossier of the Journal des Anthropologes (https://journals.openedition.org/jda/) in December 2022.
