The Urban Studies Institute, the interdisciplinary platform for urban studies at the University of Antwerp, is currently looking for a full time project manager in the domain of urban studies for the coordination of two International (doctoral) Training Networks.
Job description
The project manager will assist the academic coordinators in the management of two Marie Sk?odowska-Curie Actions International Training Networks (MSCA-ITN) at the University of Antwerp. The ITN’s are concerned with ‘Transit Oriented Development for Inclusive and Sustainable Rural-Urban Regions’ (nine partner universities and thirteen non-academic partners) and ‘Solidarity in Diversity’ (ten partner universities and twenty three non-academic partners). The ITN’s are coordinated by prof. Greet De Block and prof. Stijn Oosterlynck respectively. (More information on the research projects can be found here .
The project manager is responsible for the day-to-day organizational, administrative and financial management of the international training networks:
- Together with the academic coordinators, you form the project management team, which is responsible for the project administration and financial management of the training networks. Together you prepare and carry out the decisions taken by the Supervisory Board, which is the central steering body of the training network;
- You maintain contact with all partners in the training networks (i.e. the academic partner institutions, the non-academic partners, the doctoral researchers and the scientific advisors) and the issue-specific committees and advisory boards in which these partners convene;
- You monitor the progress of the project (deliverables, milestones, project meetings and training events) and oversee the training, communication and dissemination and recruitment process;
- You monitor the overall project budgets and are responsible for the management of the coordinators’ financial budgets;
- Together with the academic coordinator, you are responsible for the contacts with and periodic reporting the European Commission;
- You monitor the data and risk management of the project;
- You are co-responsible for outreach to and communication with all relevant external partners of the training networks.
Profile
- You have substantial experience in working in international and interdisciplinary academic environments and have proven skills in interacting with non-academic institutions in different sectors;
- You have proven project management experience and have excellent organizational, administrative and financial skills;
- You are able to communicate confidently and empathically to a diversity of academic and non-academic audiences and in a variety of cultural contexts;
- You have very good writing and oral skills in English;
- You are good in setting up cooperation, managing different expectations and mediate in conflicts;
- You can work independently but are also a team player;
What we offer
- A full time appointment as project manager at the University of Antwerp for four years, including nine months probationary period;
- The planned start date is 1 February 2021
- You will be involved in every activity of the training network, including all academic events in the network, but your position is to support research and training;
- You will receive a gross monthly salary within pay band 7.1-9.1 of the pay scales of the Administrative and Technical Staff. Your entry-level grade (usually grade 7.1) depends on your relevant professional experience.
- You will receive meal vouchers, ecocheques, group insurance and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
- We offer flexible working hours, depending on the requirements of the project management.
- You will have 40 days of annual leave and collective leave for 1 week when the university is closed, between Christmas and New Year.
