Gender&Diversity seminar: Presentation by prof.dr. Sonja Boon
Archival research necessarily involves a certain amount of speculation; inevitably there are gaps in the archival record. But how might we proceed when archival silences yawn louder than the materials that remain? What do we do when speculation becomes almost the only possible way forward? In her presentation, Sonja Boon reflects on the research and writing process for her most recent book project, What the Oceans Remember: Searching for Belonging and Home (WLU Press, 2019), a an autoethnographic excavation of a family history that spans five continents and two centuries.
Sonja Boon is professor of Gender Studies at Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John’s, Canada.
